FAQ's
What happens during an adult ADHD assessment?
An adult ADHD assessment at Laguna Psychological Services includes three main parts: a virtual clinical interview, targeted testing measures that may be administered in-person or online, and a virtual feedback session. You will also be asked to complete some questionnaires, and you may decide to include family members and/or partners in this process.
Can I get an ADHD diagnosis without childhood records?
It depends. Gathering information about your childhood and adolescence is an important part of the process and we may be able to do this without formal records like school report cards. We will work with you to see what else may be helpful.
How much does ADHD testing cost for adults?
We try our best to make this testing as accessible as possible, from a scheduling and price standpoint. This type of testing usually costs $1250 altogether, but you may be eligible for a reduced rate. Please contact us for more information.
What’s the most reliable ADHD test for adults?
A high-quality adult ADHD assessment will include several data points and hinges on an in-depth clinical interview. There is no single test, screener, or questionnaire that can effectively tell you whether or not you have ADHD. Instead, a qualified assessor will take their time to understand your lived experience and how you are currently functioning at home, work, school, and in various relationships.
How long does an adult ADHD evaluation take?
Most clients are able to schedule their first visit 1 week from their initial phone consultation. On average, the evaluation process takes 3-6 weeks from start to finish.
Should I find an Asian therapist who understands my culture?
Research shows that the therapeutic relationship is one of the strongest indicators of positive treatment outcomes. One factor that can help a client feel seen and understood is cultural matching with their therapist. No matter who your therapist is, I hope that they make serious efforts to deeply understand your cultural background, family system, and how they impact you now as an adult.
Do you take health insurance?
I am a private-pay provider. While I don't accept your insurance directly, your plan may have out-of-network (OON) benefits, which means your insurance will reimburse you for a large portion of our session cost. If you do have OON benefits, I have partnered with Thrizer to handle the out-of-network process automatically for you. They will take care of submitting and managing the claims for you, so you don't have to worry about submitting superbills. Once you meet your deductible, you also have the option to pay a reduced fee for our sessions, instead of needing to pay my full rate and waiting for a reimbursement check. Please use the widget on the Fees page to check whether you have OON benefits and your expected fee post deductible.
